* It’s been forever since we reported on the goings-on with the Australian collector car hobby, and for that, we apologize. We make it up to you now with this article that Scarselli forwarded on to us about Aussie farmer Iles Elliot, who has a collection of 40 Australian Valiant Chargers, including at least one E49. We’re now wondering which color went by the name Bondi Bleach down there.
* Does anybody know if the Miss Los Angeles, a land-speed car with 48 total cylinders built by Peter DePaolo and Harlan Fengler, was ever actually built and raced? An article in the January 1931 issue of Modern Mechanics indicates that it was on schedule to make an appearance, and the photo with the article seems to indicate that the engines became a reality, but we’re thinking we would’ve at least seen some mention of it by now if it actually attempted the speed record.
* Three liters. One cylinder. Stick it in a bike. My German’s furchtbar. Perhaps I should brush up by trying to figure out exactly what went on here. (via)
* Sticking with bikes, Richard Toonkel sent Jesse, the just a car guy guy, some photos from Rhinebeck’s Father’s Day vintage bike show to accompany Jim O’Clair’s recent posts from Rhinebeck. He also sent us some different shots, which I’ll attempt to get posted here shortly.
* And finally, our transatlantic pal Will Shiers, noting the increasing demand for steel, now fears he won’t be able to follow up his incredible book on abandoned autos in America simply because the scrappers have been working overtime to make sure China has enough rebar.
